Trip Computer

The trip computer monitors the following circuits: vehicle speed, fuel level, fuel flow and outside temperature. Fuel and vehicle speed inputs are used to calculate fuel economy, average speed and range. Voltage is supplied at all times through fuse No. 2 to the trip computer. Constant voltage to the trip computer enables the trip computer to remember necessary information when the ignition is off. It also keeps the clock operating. Fuse No. 8 supplies power to the trip computer when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. This signals the trip computer to begin monitoring its inputs.

The trip computer monitors 4 primary circuits: vehicle speed, fuel level, fuel flow and outside temperature. By monitoring these circuits, the trip computer can display 8 different functions. Three buttons on the display panel allow the driver to choose from these functions: on the left side of the display, time, stopwatch, distance, and average speed; on the right side of the display, temperature, range, average economy, and instantaneous economy. The ENGLISH/METRIC select button allows numerical information to be displayed in either English or Metric measurements.

The indicator light will move from function to function as you repeatedly press the display buttons. If the battery is disconnected, the trip computer will flash 12:00 AM until the time is reset. The tone output is connected to the chime module. When the trip computer display is changed, the chime module sounds. The trip computer also has self-diagnostic capability. It can perform 5 tests to aid in troubleshooting system sensors and their circuits.
