Removal (1.6L)
- To release fuel pressure, disconnect fuel pump connector. Fuel pump connector is located under rear seat cushion.
- With fuel pump connector disconnected, start engine and allow to idle until it stops. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery terminal and reconnect fuel pump connector. Drain cooling system.
- Remove radiator, accelerator cable and air intake hose, breather hose, PCV hose and air cleaner assembly.
- Disconnect necessary coolant hoses, electrical connections, vacuum hoses and fuel lines. Remove center cover and spark plug wires. Remove wiring harness.
- Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT . Remove rocker cover and semi-circular packing at rear of cover.
- Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Disconnect tension rod at rear of intake manifold. Using Wrench (MD998051), loosen head bolts in proper sequence using 2 steps. See Fig 1. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
