Disassembly & Inspection
- Remove rear cover. Note direction of gear installation. Mark direction of gear installation for reassembly reference.
- On 1.5L models, check outer gear-to-cover and outer gear tooth-to-crescent clearance. Check inner gear-to-crescent clearance. Place straightedge across front cover housing and measure gear end play clearance between each gear and straightedge.
- On 1.6L models, check clearance between tip of gear teeth and front cover. Place straightedge across front cover housing and measure gear end play clearance between each gear and straightedge.
- On all models, check pressure relief valve for freedom of movement in bore and relief spring tension and free length. Replace components if not within specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS table.
