Diagnostic Test

  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA 
    NOTE: CLEARING THE DTC AFTER A REPAIR - Perform after a wiring repair or component replacement:

    To erase the DTC from the Body Control Module (BCM), the BCM must detect an ignition ON/OFF/ON cycle, making sure the Power Accessory Delay (PAD) is deactivated (driver door opened) after the ignition transitions to the OFF position, along with the normal operation of the system that is associated with this DTC.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    4. With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs.

      Is the DTC Active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Next Step.

      No 

  2. DISCONNECT EACH LAMP OR COMPONENT ON THE (E3) PANEL LAMP DIMMER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT (ONE AT A TIME) AND CHECK FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT 
    NOTE:

    Additional DTCs may set when the harness connector is disconnected and the ignition is positioned on. After all repairs are completed, make sure to erase any additional DTCs that may have set. 

    1. Turn the ignition off.
      NOTE:

      Only disconnect one lamp or component harness connector at a time, while also checking if the DTC status changes from Active to Stored. Repeat this for all remaining lamps and components on the circuit being tested. 

      NOTE:

      The lamps and components listed below may vary based on vehicle options/configuration. Entering the VIN in Wiring Diagrams can assist in determining the lamps or components that should be disconnected. 

    2. One at a time, disconnect a lamp or component harness connector on the Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch MUX circuit, which may include the following:
      • Center Switch Bank
      • Front Reading Lamp
      • Rear Cargo Lamp
      • Media Port
      • Left Switch Bank
      • Left Front Footwell Lamp
      • Right Front Footwell Lamp
      • Cupholder Lamp
      • Passenger Cigar Lighter
      • USB Charging Port
      • Electric Parking Brake Module
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Is the DTC Active?

      Yes 

      • If the DTC is still Active after all of the lamps and components on the circuit are disconnected, Go To Next Step.

      No 

      • Replace the lamp and component, that when disconnected allowed the DTC status to change from Active to Stored, in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE (E3) PANEL LAMP DIMMER SWITCH MUX CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the related BCM harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between ground and the Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch MUX circuit at the BCM harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch MUX circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the short to ground on the Panel Lamps Dimmer Switch MUX circuit.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To Next Step.
  4. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all BCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
