Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To Next Step.
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR NOTE:
The Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor is integral to the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror harness connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between the AAT Sensor Signal circuit and the Sensor Ground at the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display DTC: B107B-11-EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE SENSOR-CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND?
Yes
- Verify there is good pin to terminal contact at the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor and BCM harness connectors. If no problems were found with the connectors, replace the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor (integral to the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MIRROR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To Next Step.
- CHECK THE (G31) AAT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Press the ignition off.
- Disconnect the ECU harness connector.
- Connect one lead of the DVOM to the circuit being tested at the ECU harness connector.
- Connect the other lead of the DVOM to a known good ground.
- Press the ignition on.NOTE:
With the circuit isolated there should be no voltage on the circuit being tested.
NOTE:When probing a circuit at an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) harness connector, always use an appropriate back probing tool to prevent any possible damage to the ECU terminals.
Is there any voltage on the circuit being tested?
Yes
- Repair the short to voltage on the circuit tested. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To Next Step.
- CHECK THE (G31) AAT SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the related BCM harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the AAT Sensor Signal circuit between the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror harness connector and the related BCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To Next Step.
No
- Repair the open in the AAT Sensor Signal circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (G931) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of the Sensor Ground circuit between the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror harness connector and the related BCM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To Next Step.
No
- Repair the open in the Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the Sensor Ground circuit between the Driver Outside Rearview Mirror harness connector and the related BCM harness connector.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all BCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
