Diagnostic Test

ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (C911) DRIVER MIRROR HEATER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT AT THE RELATED BCM HARNESS CONNECTOR 

ISOLATE AND CHECK THE (C911) DRIVER MIRROR HEATER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT AT THE RELATED PDC HARNESS CONNECTOR 

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read Body Control Module (BCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To Next Step.

      No 

  2. CHECK THE HEATED MIRROR RELAY 
    1. Turn the Defogger System is off.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Remove the Heated Mirror Relay from the Power Distribution Center (PDC) Assembly and substitute it with a known good relay.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Turn the Defogger System on.
    6. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To Next Step.

      No 

  3. CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON THE (C911) DRIVER MIRROR HEATER SUPPLY CIRCUIT 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the Heated Mirror Relay from the PDC Assembly.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit at the related BCM connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Go To Next Step.

      No 

      • Go To  14.
  4. Turn the ignition off.
  5. Disconnect the harness connector for the BCM and every component containing the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit. At this time leave all in-line connectors connected. Note:  Use the wiring diagram as a guide to follow the path of the circuit.
  6. Connect one lead of the DVOM to the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit at the BCM harness connector.
  7. With the other lead of the DVOM, probe all other circuits at the BCM harness connector.
    NOTE:

    With the circuit isolated there should be no continuity between the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit and any other circuit. 

    Is there continuity between the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit and any other circuit?

    Yes 

    • Repair the short between the circuits that have continuity. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
    • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

    No 

    • Go To Next Step.
  8. Turn the ignition off.
  9. Disconnect the harness connector for the PDC and every component containing the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit. At this time leave all in-line connectors connected. Note:  Use the wiring diagram as a guide to follow the path of the circuit.
  10. Connect one lead of the DVOM to the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit at the PDC harness connector.
  11. With the other lead of the DVOM, probe all other circuits at the PDC harness connector.
    NOTE:

    With the circuit isolated there should be no continuity between the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit and any other circuit. 

    Is there continuity between the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit and any other circuit?

    Yes 

    • Repair the short between the circuits that have continuity. Use the wiring diagram as a guide to trace the circuits and look for any in-line connectors to help isolate the location of the short.
    • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

    No 

    • Go To Next Step.
  12. CHECK THE (C911) DRIVER MIRROR HEATER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit between the related BCM harness connector and the related PDC harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To Next Step

      No 

      • Repair the Driver Mirror Heater Supply circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  13. CHECK RELATED PDC ASSEMBLY HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all PDC Assembly harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all PDC Assembly harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Power Distribution Center (PDC) Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

  14. CHECK RELATED BCM HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all BCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
