Oil Pump Installation

  1. Clean the intermediate support plate and oil pump with suitable solvent and blow them dry with regulated 344 kPa (50 psi) shop air.
  2. Inspect the intermediate support plate and oil pump for apparent damage or ware. If the intermediate support plate is damaged, the transmission will require replacement. If the oil pump is damaged, replace the oil pump.

  3. Insert the oil pump (1) into the intermediate support plate (2). Align the tabs on the pump with the notches on the intermediate support plate.

  4. Using pliers, compress the snap-ring to hold the oil pump in the intermediate support plate.

  5. While holding compression on the snap ring, use the tool mentioned below with a C-clamp to compress the spring on the bottom of the oil pump just enough to seat the snap-ring.

    (special tool #2016200211, Remover-Installer, 948 TE Transmission Pump)

  6. Install the oil pump drive chain onto the oil pump driven sprocket.

  7. Install the oil pump drive sprocket onto the drive chain.
  8. While holding the chain on the drive sprocket, turn the intermediate support plate and oil pump (1) inside up on the work surface.

  9. Place the intermediate support plate in position on the bellhousing.
  10. Insert the oil pump drive sprocket into the oil pump sprocket needle bearing.

  11. Install the bolts to hold the intermediate support plate to the bellhousing and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  12. Place the reaction shaft into the intermediate support plate.

  13. Install the bolts to hold the reaction shaft to the intermediate support plate and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  14. Insert the transmission oil filter neck into the oil pump orifice and align the bolt hole with the bore in the intermediate support plate.

  15. Install the bolt to hold the transmission oil filter to the intermediate support plate and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  16. Replace the O-ring seals on the fluid tube.
  17. Install the fluid tube into the bellhousing and intermediate support plate.
  18. Install the bellhousing on the transmission. Refer to BELLHOUSING, INSTALLATION .
  19. Install the transmission in the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
