Fwd Differential Assembly

NOTE:

The differential unit can be placed on tool as a stable holding fixture.

(Special tool #6888, Installer, Seal)

Clean the differential components with suitable solvent and blow then dry with 344 kPa (50 psi) shop air. Inspect the differential components for excess wear or damage. Replace the differential if damage is apparent.

Install the differential side gear and thrust washer into the differential housing.

1 - Conical Thrust Washer

2 - Pinion Shaft
Install the pinion shaft in the differential housing.
Slide the pinion shaft inward and install the conical thrust washer.

Slide the pinion shaft inward and install the pinion gear.

Slide the pinion shaft inward and install the conical thrust washer behind the pinion gear.

1 - Lock Pin

2 - Differential Housing

Align the hole in the pinion shaft with the hole in the differential housing and install the lock pin to hold the pinion shaft in the differential housing.

Install the differential side gear and thrust washer into the differential housing.

Place the upper half of the differential housing on the lower half of the differential housing.

Place the ring gear in position on the differential housing.

Install the bolts to hold the ring gear to the differential housing.

3 - Ring Gear

4 - Ring Gear Bolts
Tighten the ring gear bolts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

1 - Differential Housing
Place the differential housing in position in the transmission.
Install the bellhousing. Refer to BELLHOUSING, INSTALLATION .
Install the transmission in the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
