Differential Bearing Removal

  1. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL .
  2. Position the transmission on a suitable, clean work surface.
  3. Remove the bellhousing. Refer to BELLHOUSING, REMOVAL .

    1 - Differential Unit
  4. Remove the differential unit from the transmission.
  5. Clean the differential unit with solvent and blow it dry with regulated 344 kPa (50 psi) shop air.

    1 - Press Puller C-293-PA
    2 - Adaptor Blocks 9738
    3 - Crankshaft 8531B
    4 - Differential Unit
NOTE:

If the differential is assembled, remove the bearings using the following tools and procedure.

  1. Using the tools mentioned below, remove the side bearings.

    (Special tool #9738, Blocks, Adapter), (Special tool #8513B, Insert, Crankshaft), and (Special tool #C-293-PA, Puller, Press)

4 - Side Bearing
NOTE:

If the differential is disassembled  remove the bearings using following tools and procedure.

  1. Using the tools mentioned below remove the side bearing.

    (Special tool #C-293-37, Block Set, Puller), (Special tool #9678, Press Plug), and (Special tool #C-293-PA, Puller, Press)
