Input Shaft End Play Measurement

Before disassembling the transmission, measure the end play of the input shaft. This will aid in the assembly process when selecting a select shim.

1. Place the transmission on a suitable clean work surface.
2. Remove the torque converter.
3. Use the tools attached to the input shaft, to measure the input shaft end play.

   (Special tool #8266B, End Play Socket Set) and (Special tool #C-3339A, Set, Dial Indicator)

   2 - Spline Adapter 8266-6

   3 - Handle 8266-8

4. Attach the dial indicator to the handle 8266-8.
5. Attach the handle to the spline adapter 8266-6.
6. Attach the spline adapter to the input shaft.
7. Position the dial indicator plunger on the bellhousing rim.
8. Pull outward on the handle and zero the dial indicator face.

9. Push inward on the handle and read the dial indicator.
10. Record the measurement as a reference number for selecting the proper thickness select spacer when assembling the transmission.
