Vehicle Is Disabled

Check for transmission DTCs using the appropriate scan tool.
Position the vehicle on a hoist with the transmission in neutral. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - HOISTING .
Check for cracked, leaking cooler lines.
Check the fluid level and condition. Refer to FLUID LEVEL CHECK .
With the transmission in the park position, attempt to rotate halfshafts to make sure the transmission output shaft is intact.
Check the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) (if equipped).
Raise and support vehicle on safety stands, start engine with transmission in the Park position and allow to idle for several minutes, shift transmission into gear, and note the following:
- On an All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle, if driveshaft turns but wheels do not, problem is with the differential or halfshafts.
- If the driveshaft does not turn and the transmission is noisy, stop the engine. Remove the transmission oil pan, and check for debris. If the pan is clear, remove the transmission and check for damaged driveplate, torque converter, oil pump, or input shaft.
Check the Transmission Control Module (TCM), wiring, valve body, and solenoids (Utilize fault codes to diagnose if available).
