Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK DRIVELINE OPERATION 
    NOTE:

    If unusual noise is heard or a flare condition is associated with this DTC, this could indicate a mechanical condition is present that is causing a reduced or loss of torque transfer to the driveline.

    1. Apply the Parking Brake.
    2. Connect the scan tool and navigate to the TCM DATA screen.
    3. Start the engine and shift to drive while keeping the brakes firmly applied.
      NOTE:

      It may be necessary to slightly open the throttle momentarily while conducting this test.

    4. Monitor the Transmission Output Speed Sensor with the Scan tool.

      Does the scan tool show the Transmission Output Shaft is rotating while the vehicle is stationary?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. With the scan tool, read all DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    5. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ABS MODULE DTCS 
    1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

      Is U0121-00 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ABS MODULE set?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all TCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all TCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
      • Replace the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and perform the PROXI Configuration Alignment procedures in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), REMOVAL .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .

      No 

  5. INSPECT THE DRIVELINE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Visually and physically inspect the driveline for:
      • Half Shafts present and CV joints are in tact.
      • Damaged splines at either end of the Half Shaft or the splined mating surfaces.

      Is there any damage visible?

      Yes 

      No
