Sensor, Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM): Removal

CAUTION:

The cap used on this valve stem contains an O-ring seal to prevent contamination and moisture from entering the valve stem. Do not substitute a regular valve stem cap in its place.

CAUTION:

The valve stem used on this vehicle is made of aluminum and the core is nickel plated brass. The original valve stem core must be reinstalled and not substituted with a valve stem core made of a different material. This is required to prevent corrosion in the valve stem caused by the different metals.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .

  3. Dismount the tire from the wheel. To avoid damaging the tire pressure monitor (TPM) sensor, do the following:
    1. When breaking the tire bead loose from the wheel rim, do not use a Bead Breaker in the area of the TPM sensor (1), on both the outer and inner beads of the tire.
    2. Before dismounting the tire from the wheel, carefully insert the mounting/dismounting tool 280° (± 10°) from the valve stem, on both the outer and inner beads of the tire. Dismount the tire from the wheel.

  4. Hold pressure against rear of metal valve stem to keep valve stem from pushing rearward, then remove the TPM sensor nut (3).
  5. Remove the TPM sensor (1) from wheel (2).
