Outer Tie Rod

  1. Place front wheels of vehicle in STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove wheel mounting bolts, then tire and wheel assembly.

  4. Loosen tie rod jam nut (2).

  5. Remove nut (2) attaching outer tie rod (1) to knuckle by holding rod end stud stationary while loosening and removing nut with a wrench.
  6. Release outer tie rod end (1) from knuckle using a tie rod puller.

  7. Remove outer tie rod (1) from inner tie rod threads. Count how many rotations it takes to remove outer tie rod for installation reference.
