Outer Tie Rod

  1. Install outer tie rod onto inner tie rod threads. As outer tie rod is installed, count out same number rotations as were counted on tie rod removal. This will get toe setting somewhat close to specifications before vehicle is aligned at end of this procedure.
  2. Attach outer tie rod (1) to knuckle. Start NEW nut (3) onto outer tie rod stud. While holding stud stationary, tighten nut using a wrench. Using a crowfoot wrench on a torque wrench, tighten nut (3) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Snug tie rod jam nut (2). Do not fully tighten at this time. Tighten tie rod jam nuts to specifications while performing wheel alignment at end of this procedure.
  4. Install tire and wheel assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  5. Lower vehicle.
  6. Perform wheel alignment, setting toe to specifications. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
