Bench Seat Center Seating Position
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
To avoid serious or fatal injury during and following any seat belt or child restraint anchor service, carefully inspect all seat belts, buckles, mounting hardware, retractors, tether straps, and anchors for proper installation, operation, or damage. Replace any belt that is cut, frayed, or torn. Straighten any belt that is twisted. Tighten any loose fasteners. Replace any belt that has a damaged or ineffective buckle or retractor. Replace any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. Replace any child restraint anchor or the unit to which the anchor is integral that has been bent or damaged. Never attempt to repair a seat belt or child restraint component. Always replace damaged or ineffective seat belt and child restraint components with the correct, new and unused replacement parts listed in the Mopar® Parts Catalog. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. Wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service.
- Working from behind the passenger bench seat, remove the screw (2) that secures the trim cover (1) over the center seating position seat belt retractor and to the seat riser frame bracket.
- Remove the trim cover from over the retractor.
- Loosen but do not remove the screw (1) that secures the outboard seating position seat belt buckle tensioner lower anchor (3) to the right side of the seat riser frame bracket and the center seating position seat belt lower anchor to the left side of the seat riser frame bracket.
- Continue loosening the tensioner screw in Step 4 far enough to disengage the weld nut and bracket unit (2) that secures the seat belt lower anchor (1) to the left side of the seat riser frame bracket.
- Remove the screw (2) that secures the retractor (1) bracket to the seat riser frame bracket.
- Remove the retractor from the seat riser frame.
- Working from the front of the passenger bench seat, pull the seat belt lower anchor up from between the seat back and the seat cushion.
- Remove the two screws (2) that secure the trim cover (1) to the center seating position seat belt turning loop bracket at the top of the seat back frame.
- Disengage the seat belt webbing (3), latch plate and lower anchor from the trim cover.
- Remove the screw (1) that secures the turning loop (2) to the turning loop bracket at the top of the seat back frame.
- Disassemble the screw (1), retainer (2), spacer (3) and two washers (4) from the turning loop.
- Secure a length of stiff wire to the seat belt lower anchor. The wire needs to be long enough to extend from the floor panel behind the seat to the turning loop bracket at the top of the seat back frame and will be used to fish the seat belt webbing through the seat back beneath the seat back trim cover during installation.NOTE:
The stiff wire must remain in place within the seat back for use during seat belt installation.
- While pulling the seat belt webbing down from the bottom of the seat back frame, guide the seat belt latch plate, turning loop, lower anchor and the stiff wire through the turning loop bracket integral to the top of the seat back frame.
- When the lower anchor becomes accessible from the bottom of the seat back frame, disengage the stiff wire from the lower anchor.
- Remove the center seating position seat belt and retractor from the vehicle as a unit.
