- Remove the cylinder head cover and inspect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor tone wheel for any looseness or signs of damage. Refer to COVER(S), CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVAL .
- Using the Check Tool (Right) or Check Tool (Left)
(#2027902090, Check Tool, Tone Wheel Right) or (#2027901090, Check Tool, Tone Wheel Left)
check the alignment of the CMP sensor tone wheel.
- With the engine at TDC on the exhaust stroke for cylinder #1 and the camshaft phaser marks aligned, place the tool on the pedestal where the camshaft position sensor seats. The tone wheels have a small alignment hole stamped in them.
- If the tone wheels are indexed to the camshafts properly, the pin will pass through the tool and the hole in the tone wheel.
- If the pin does not pass through, the camshaft will need to be replaced.
- Do not attempt to remove and realign the tone wheel.
