Diagnostic Test
- CHECK THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR READINGS NOTE:
In cold weather, this DTC could be set by a high powered block heater and no repair would be required.
- Allow the engine to cold soak with the ignition off long enough for the engine temperature to cool to near ambient temperature.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read the ECT, Ambient Air Temp and Intake Air Temp Sensor temperature values.
Are the temperature readings within 15°C (59°F) of each other?
Yes
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any ECT, Intake Air and Ambient Air Temperature Sensor DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to 3.6L - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No

- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK ONE OF THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the suspected sensor.
- Disconnect the appropriate PCM or BCM harness connector depending on the sensor.CAUTION:
Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the adapter.

- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PCM and BCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
