Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- Wait 15 seconds with the ignition on and then start the engine and allow the vehicle to warm up to operating temperature.
- With a scan tool, read and record DTCs on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE FUSED B+ VOLTAGE AT THE RADIATOR FAN 2 CONTROL RELAY
- CHECK THE RADIATOR FAN FUSE IN THE PDC
- Using the wiring information as a guide, check the fuse in the PDC.
Is the fuse open?
Yes
- Check the (A112) Relay Output circuit for a short to ground and repair as necessary. If the circuit is not shorted to ground replace the right Radiator Fan Assembly.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Check the Battery supply to the PDC. If the PDC Battery supply is good replace the Power Distribution Center in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Using the wiring information as a guide, check the fuse in the PDC.
- CHECK THE RADIATOR FAN 2 CONTROL RELAY (K175) CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay from the PDC.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay (K175) Control circuit at the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay connector in the PDC.
Is there continuity between ground and the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay (K175) Control circuit?
Yes
- Repair the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay (K175) Control (K175) Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE RADIATOR FAN 2 CONTROL RELAY
- Install the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay back into the relay connector.
- Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, back probe the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay (K175) Control circuit.
Does the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay energize when the control circuit is grounded?
Yes
- Replace the Radiator Fan 2 Control Relay.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
