Muffler, Exhaust: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Saturate the band clamp nuts with rust penetrant. Allow five minutes for penetration.NOTE:
When replacement is required on any component of the exhaust system, it is important that original equipment parts (or equivalent) be used.
- Remove the exhaust isolators.
- Loosen the band clamp nut (3) at the muffler (2) and separate the exhaust extension pipe from the muffler.
- Loosen the band clamp nut (1) at the exhaust resonator (2) and remove the muffler.CAUTION:
Do not use any tools to remove the rubber isolators, remove by hand only. Soapy water or silicone based lubricant spray may be used to assist removal/installation of isolators. DO NOT use a petroleum based lubricant on the isolators, as damage to the rubber material can occur.
- Clean the ends of the pipes or muffler to assure mating of all parts. Discard broken or worn insulators, rusted clamps, supports and attaching parts.
