Cover, Instrument Panel: Removal

WARNING:

Disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

Take the proper precautions to protect the front face of the instrument panel from cosmetic damage during this service procedure.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to CABLES, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  2. Position the front wheels of vehicle (and steering wheel) in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position. This action will help keep the clock spring properly centered for reinstallation.
  3. Remove the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL .

  4. Remove LTE2/G4 antenna. Refer to ANTENNA, NAVIGATION, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove fasteners (1 and 2) and kick panel (3).

  6. Disengage the tabs (1) and release the data port connector (2) from the instrument panel.
  7. Remove the fasteners from the Body Control Module (BCM) bracket and position aside. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), REMOVAL .

  8. Remove the nut (1) from the support brace (2).
  9. Remove the instrument panel cupholder. Refer to CUPHOLDER, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  10. Remove the fasteners (1) and remove the cup holder trim support bracket (2).
  11. If equipped, disconnect the wire harness connectors.

  12. Pull the shifter boot (1) down.
  13. Gently pull the pry outwards on the shifter boot trim ring tabs (2) and slide the ring away from the shifter.

  14. Remove the shift knob screw (1) and the knob from the shifter.

  15. Using a trim stick, separate shifter bezel (2) from instrument panel.
  16. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) and remove the shifter bezel (2) and boot.
  17. Remove the upper and lower glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  18. Disconnect the antenna leads and wire harness connectors (1).
  19. Remove the passenger side air bag. Refer to AIR BAG, PASSENGER, REMOVAL .
  20. Disconnect the wire harness connectors to the bluetooth antenna.
  21. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to REMOVAL .
  22. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL .

  23. Remove the fastener (1) and separate the hood release handle from the IP.

  24. Disconnect the cable from the lever (1) and separate the cable housing (2) remove the handle.
  25. Using a trim stick, remove the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, REMOVAL .

  26. Using a small flat bladed tool or equivalent, remove the mode switch (1) from the left side of the steering column opening and disconnect the electrical connector (2).
  27. Remove the electric park brake switch. Refer to SWITCH, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE, REMOVAL .

  28. Remove the I/P cover fasteners (1).

  33. Remove the fastener (1) securing the I/P cover (2).
  34. Disconnect any remaining wire harness connectors and wire harness retainers.

  35. Remove the I/P cover (1) from the I/P support beam.
