Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
- Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
- Turn the ignition on.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Press the brake pedal firmly and hold.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- The conditions that caused this code to set are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) SWITCH CONNECTOR/TERMINAL FOR DAMAGE NOTE:
Check all terminals for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Inspect the EPB Switch for proper mounting.
- Inspect the EPB Switch for correct mechanical operation.
- Inspect the EPB Switch harness and connector.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
- Disconnect the EPB Switch harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Measure the voltage of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
- (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Measure the voltage of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
- (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- Measure the voltage of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
- (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- Measure the voltage of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
- (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 9
- Measure the voltage of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.
- (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 11
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit.
- (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 12
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit.
- (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 13
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit.
- (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 14
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit.
- (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 15
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit.
- (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 16
No
- Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 17
No
- Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 18
No
- Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 19
No
- Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 20
No
- Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 21
No
- Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.
- ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) SWITCH
- Replace the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) Switch.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition from off to on.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
- Release the brake pedal.
- Cycle the ignition from off to on.
- With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
Does the DTC remain active?
Yes
- Go To 22
No
- Test complete.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Connect the ABS Module harness connector. Be certain that the harness connector is fully seated and the connector lock is fully engaged.
- Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.WARNING:
To avoid personal injury or death, check brake capability is available before road testing.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ABS Module DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), REMOVAL .
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
