Integrated Control Unit (ICU): Removal

NOTE:

Before proceeding, refer to following information CAUTION , and WARNING .

NOTE:

If servicing ABM only, refer to MODULE, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), REMOVAL .

  1. Remove the battery access cover.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable (1).
  3. Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress brake pedal past its first inch of travel and hold it in this position. Holding pedal in this position will isolate master cylinder from hydraulic brake system and will not allow brake fluid to drain out of brake fluid reservoir while brake lines are open.
  4. Remove the left headlamp assembly. Refer to UNIT, FRONT LAMP, REMOVAL .

  5. Remove the hydraulic control unit cover (1).

  6. Remove the brake tube nuts (1) at the hydraulic control unit.
  7. Remove the primary and secondary brake tubes (2) at the hydraulic control unit.
  8. Disconnect the ABM harness connector (4) from the Antilock Brake Module (ABM). To do so:
    1. Depress the center tab on the connector cover, then
    2. Pull outward and upward on the lever (3) until it locks into position pointing straight outward. The connector can then be pulled straight outward off the ABM (5).
  9. Remove the ABS ICU mounting bolts.
  10. Remove the ICU from the mounting bracket.
  11. If ABM and HCU need to be separated, refer to INTEGRATED CONTROL UNIT (ICU), DISASSEMBLY .
