Parking Brake: Description

If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
The electromechanical motor gear units are attached directly to the conventional hydraulic rear brake calipers with two fasteners and provide clamp load through the caliper transferred to the brake rotor.
ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE (EPB) SWITCH

This vehicle is equipped with an Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch mounted to the Instrument Panel to the left of the steering wheel.
The EPB switch is a three-position switch that can be pulled up to apply or pressed down to release. The switch communicates with the ABS module through hard-wired circuits. The switch housing also includes an indicator to let the driver know when the parking brake is applied. If the vehicle is turned off, the indicator will extinguish after ten seconds.
