Caliper, Disc Brake, Front: Removal

NOTE:

Before proceeding. Refer to CAUTION . Refer to WARNING .

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress the brake pedal past its first one inch (25 mm) of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir when the lines are opened.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to REMOVAL .

  5. Remove the caliper guide pin covers (1, 3).
  6. Detach the brake pad wear sensor clip from the disc brake caliper.
  7. Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor electrical connector.

  8. Remove the two brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  9. Remove the disc brake caliper from the disc brake adapter bracket. Using a suitable device, support the disc brake caliper. Do not allow the disc brake caliper to hang by the brake hose.
  10. Remove the brake hose grommet from the front strut.
  11. Disconnect the brake line from the wheel housing.
  12. Remove the disc brake caliper.
  13. Remove the brake caliper hose from the disc brake caliper.
