Booster, Power Brake: Installation

NOTE:

Before power brake booster (1) installation, be certain a NEW dash seal (2) is installed on the booster mounting studs.

  1. Install power brake booster through engine compartment, guiding push rod and mounting studs through dash panel with vacuum check valve oriented to 7 O'clock position on booster face.
  2. Install four power brake booster mounting nuts. Tighten the nuts in the following sequence: Top inboard, bottom outboard, top outboard, bottom inboard to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Failure to do so may result in damage to the booster.

    NOTE:

    Make sure the cup that the booster push rod reacts against is still in place in the pedal before installing the new booster rod keeper.

    NOTE:

    The brake pedal booster rod keeper (2) cannot be reused. Always install a new keeper if the brake pedal push rod was separated from the keeper.

  3. Install the power brake booster push rod and retainer (2) into NEW booster rod keeper, ensuring that the clips (1) are engaged.
  4. Install and adjust the stop lamp switch in the brake pedal bracket. Refer to UNIT, FRONT LAMP, INSTALLATION .

  5. Connect vacuum hose check valve (7) to the face of booster.
    CAUTION:

    When installing master cylinder on vehicle, a NEW vacuum seal MUST be installed on master cylinder.

  6. Install NEW  master cylinder and nuts (5). Tighten the nuts to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Connect brake tubes to the ICU. Tighten the tubes to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Connect brake switch electrical connector (4).
  9. Install the engine coolant reservoir bottle to the bracket.
  10. Install the left headlamp assembly. Refer to UNIT, FRONT LAMP, INSTALLATION .
  11. Fill master cylinder with clean, fresh Mopar® Brake Fluid or equivalent, then bleed brakes. Refer to BASE BRAKE BLEEDING .
  12. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of brakes.
