Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter
Use of the Radio Frequency Detector is required to confirm that the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is functioning. Typical testing distance is 30.5 centimeters (12 inches).
(Special Tool #9001, RF Detector)
- Position the transmitter the appropriate distance from the special tool.
- Depress any transmitter button, then test each button individually. The special tool will issue an audible beep tone if a satisfactory radio signal strength that lights five or more LED units is detected.
- Repeat Step 2 three times. If the transmitter fails any of the signal strength tests, use a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information to complete further diagnosis.
KEY FOB IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURE
"Key FOB Identification" procedure located in the RF-Hub "Misc Functions" menu: The "Key FOB Identification" procedure should be used in the event that you need to confirm if a specific key fob is programmed to the vehicle and how many key fob programming slots are available.
When to perform this procedure: Performing this procedure will determine if the fob being programmed or reviewed belongs to this vehicle or is a blank.
- Before programming a new key fob. This could be due to the customer requesting an additional fob or a replacement fob. This will identify if the fob to be programmed to the vehicle is virgin and if it can be programmed.
- When troubleshooting or diagnosing a customer complaint for key fob issues such as key fob inoperative. This will determine if the key fob that the customer brought in for service belongs to the vehicle.
This procedure returns two pieces of information that will help root cause a key fob concern:
- The first line of Information tells the technician whether the key fob is programmed to that vehicle (Learned), not programmed to the vehicle (Not Learned), or not programmed to any vehicle (Blank).
- The second line of information is additional information based off of the first line. This second line of information is useful if the fob is programmed to that vehicle as it shows what slot the key fob is programmed to.
