Pump, Windshield Washer: Description
The washer pump/motor unit is located on the top of a sump area on the inboard side of the washer reservoir, which is located behind the right front combination lamp unit on top of the right front fender wheel house on the right side of the engine compartment. A small permanently lubricated and sealed electric motor is coupled to the rotor-type washer pump. An inlet nipple (3) on the pump housing passes through a rubber grommet seal installed in a dedicated mounting hole of the washer reservoir sump. When the pump is installed in the reservoir the barbed outlet nipple (2) connects the unit to the washer plumbing.
The washer pump/motor unit is retained on the reservoir by the interference fit between the pump inlet nipple and the grommet seal, which is a light press fit. This fit allows for mounting of the washer pump without the use of fasteners. An integral connector receptacle (1) on the top of the motor housing connects the unit to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the engine compartment wire harness.
The washer pump/motor unit cannot be repaired. If ineffective or damaged, the entire washer pump/motor unit must be replaced. The rubber grommet seal is available for separate service replacement.
