Arm, Wiper: Installation
NOTE:
Connect the negative battery cable. Be certain that the wiper motor is in the park position before attempting to install the wiper arms. Transition the status of the ignition switch to On and move the right multifunction switch control stalk to turn the wiper motor On, then move it back to the Off position. Wait until the wiper pivot shafts stop moving, then transition the status of the ignition switch back to Off. The wiper motor is now in the park position. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
NOTE:
The right and left wiper arms are not interchangeable. Be certain that each wiper arm is installed on the proper wiper pivot.
- The wiper arm (2) and blade (1) unit must be indexed to the pivot shaft with the wiper motor in the park position to be properly installed. Position the wiper arm pivot end onto the wiper pivot shaft so that the lower edge of the wiper blade is aligned with the wiper alignment marks, which are etched white circle marks near the lower margin of the windshield.
- Once the wiper blade is aligned, hold the pivot end of the arm over the pivot shaft while lifting the wiper blade away from the windshield slightly to relieve the spring tension on the pivot end. Now push the pivot end of the wiper arm down firmly and evenly over the pivot shaft until it is fully engaged.
- Install and tighten the washer and nut (2) that secures the wiper arm (1) to the pivot shaft. Tighten the nut to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Wet the windshield glass, then operate the wipers. Turn the wiper switch to the Off position, then check for correct wiper blade alignment and adjust as required.
- Install the plastic nut cap (2) onto the wiper arm (1) mounting nut.
- For the left wiper arm only, install the molding above the left front combination lamp unit. Refer to BEZEL, HEADLAMP UPPER, INSTALLATION .
