Valve Body: Installation

CAUTION:

The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.

  1. Install the fluid port (1) with NEW  O-rings (2).

  2. Install the valve body assembly to the transmission using the previously installed (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) (1) as a guide.
  3. Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.

  4. Install the valve body assembly retaining bolts not including 16-18 and hand tighten.
  5. Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.

  6. Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1) carefully install the electrical harness insulator (2) to the transmission case (3).

  7. Lock the electrical connector lock (2) to the internal harness end.
  8. Install the rear valve body retaining bolts (1, 2) and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  9. When installing the OSS into the case, take care to position the OSS guide pin as shown below or DAMAGE  to the sensor may result. This is the INCORRECT  alignment of the pin.

  10. This is the CORRECT  installation and pin alignment.
  11. Install the output speed sensor to the case install the retaining bolt and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  12. If equipped, install the Hydraulic Impulse Oil Storage (H.I.S.) accumulator (1).
  13. Tighten the bolts (2 and 3) to and tighten to the proper specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  14. Connect the H.I.S. electrical connector.
  15. Install the valve body assembly end retainer bolts (3) and hand tighten.

  16. Tighten the valve body fasteners in the sequence shown to 8 N.m (71 in. lbs.).

  17. Remove the tie strap (3).
  18. Attach the Manual Park Release (MPR) cable (1) to the MPR lever (2).

  19. Install the oil pan and gasket.
  20. Install the thirteen oil pan retaining bolts and tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.) using the sequence given.

  21. Connect the plug connector (1).

  22. Turn the locking mechanism (1) of the harness plug clockwise and lock in place.
  23. If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
  24. Perform the TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE  .
  25. Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
