Panel, Instrument: Removal

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury when removing a deployed airbag, rubber gloves, eye protection, and a long-sleeved shirt should be worn. There may be deposits on the airbag unit and other interior surfaces. In large doses, these deposits may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury, use extreme care to prevent any foreign material from entering the passenger airbag, or becoming entrapped between the passenger airbag cushion and the instrument panel top pad. Failure to observe this warning could result in occupant injuries upon airbag deployment.

  1. Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL  .
  2. Remove the glove box. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the passenger silencer panel, under the glove box.
  4. Remove the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL .
  5. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to REMOVAL .
  6. Remove the two bolts from behind the instrument cluster, that fasten the instrument panel support beam.

  7. In the steering column opening, remove the bolt (1) that secures the instrument panel support beam to the support bracket of the cowl panel.
  8. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, REMOVAL .

  9. Remove the bolt (1), near the speaker.
  10. Remove the A-pillar trim panels. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
  11. Remove the cowl side trim panels. Refer to PANEL, COWL TRIM, SIDE, REMOVAL .

  12. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) on the driver side.

  13. Disconnect the wire harness connectors (1 and 2) on the passenger side.
  14. Remove the instrument panel center trim bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT PANEL, APPLIQUE, REMOVAL .
  15. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL .

  16. Remove the four nuts (1) that secure the HVAC housing to the center of the instrument panel support.

  17. Remove the two center support bolts (1).

  18. Remove the nut to the right side HVAC (1).
  19. Remove the center duct.
  20. Disconnect the HVAC electrical connectors. Refer to HOUSING, HVAC, REMOVAL .

  21. Remove the bolts (1) on both sides of the instrument panel.
  22. With the help of an assistant, remove the instrument panel assembly.
