Audio/Video/Entertainment/Connectivity (Service Information): Radio: Description

The radio can be identified by its sales code. The radio chassis design is the same for all 213 mm (8.4 in.) radios and has an integral display screen. The radio chassis design is similar for the 257 mm (10.1 in.) radios, however the display screen is a disassociated Display Screen Module (DSM). The base radio and the premium radio have the electronics mounted parallel to the display screen in an aluminum chassis, however, the premium radio electronics are in a separate housing from the display screen.

Base  - The base radio (1) has an integral 213 mm (8.4 in.) touchscreen (2) with hard keys on the Integrated Center Stack (ICS). The ICS allows the HVAC system to be controlled with the touchscreen, or the redundant ICS hard key controls. There is no external hands free module, all hands free functions are integrated into the radio. A remote mounted media hub contains access ports for a 3.5 mm auxiliary audio plug, two type-A and two type-C Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports.

Premium  - The premium R1 radio (1) is identified by a 257 mm (10.1 in.) color disassociated touchscreen DSM (3). The radio is secured to a bracket (2) located behind the DSM in the instrument panel. All premium radios offer FM2 High Definition (HD) radio reception and can be identified by the HD symbol located on the screen when the radio is in radio mode. The premium radio is the only radio equipped with NAV. A remote mounted media hub contains access ports for a 3.5 mm auxiliary audio plug, two type-A and two type-C Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports.

The status bar appears on top edge of the screen and displays useful information that can be quickly switched and rearranged for the weather, vehicle's time, and seat climates.

The category bar appears at the bottom of an app screen and provides the ability to also quickly switch and rearrange between seven different sections of the system. The seven sections are the following"

The radio contains a microcontroller and programming that allows it to communicate with other electronic modules in the vehicle over the Controller Area Network - Interior High Speed (CAN-IHS) data bus. In vehicles equipped with the premium radio, the radio also uses electronic message communication with other electronic modules in the vehicle over the CAN-C data bus. The radio cannot be adjusted or repaired. If an radio is damaged or ineffective, it must be replaced. The external AM/FM antenna and the external combination antenna can be repaired separately from the radio. The radio software is flash programmable through the USB port.
