Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs and record on the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU  function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
    6. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE WIRING CONNECTIONS AT THE RADIO, IN-LINE HARNESS CONNECTORS, AND AT THE REAR CAMERA 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
      NOTE:

      Some back-up camera systems may use a coaxial cable with FAKRA connectors.

    2. Inspect the Radio harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
    3. Inspect the wiring in-line harness connectors for a secure and undamaged connection.
    4. Inspect the Rear Camera harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.

      Are the connections secure and undamaged?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the cable connection(s) as needed and check video operation.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CONFIRM THE TYPE OF REAR CAMERA CIRCUITS 
    1. Confirm the type of Rear Camera circuit being tested.

      Is the Rear Camera circuit coaxial cable with a FAKRA connection?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. TEST THE REAR CAMERA CIRCUITS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Radio harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the Rear Camera harness connector.
    4. Perform a voltage drop test of the Rear Camera circuits at the Rear Camera harness connector.

      Is the voltage drop less than 0.2 volts?

      Yes 

      • Go To the appropriate Service Information

      No 

      • Replace the Rear Camera circuit(s) as needed.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CONNECT THE COAX CABLE ADAPTER TOOL BETWEEN THE RADIO AND THE REAR CAMERA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Radio harness connector going to the Rear Camera.
    3. Disconnect the Rear Camera harness connector.
    4. Connect the RG-174 Coax Cable 9977-6-8 Adapter (special tool #9977-6-8, Adapter, RG-174 Coax Cable) between the Rear Camera and the Radio connector.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    7. Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
    8. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  6

    No 

  6. REPLACE THE REAR CAMERA 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Replace the Rear Camera in accordance with the service information.
    3. With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU  function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
    6. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

  7. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU  function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
    9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    10. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    11. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
