Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE WIRING CONNECTIONS AT THE RADIO, IN-LINE HARNESS CONNECTORS, AND AT THE REAR CAMERA
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
Some back-up camera systems may use a coaxial cable with FAKRA connectors.
- Inspect the Radio harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
- Inspect the wiring in-line harness connectors for a secure and undamaged connection.
- Inspect the Rear Camera harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
Are the connections secure and undamaged?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the cable connection(s) as needed and check video operation.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Turn the ignition off.
- CONFIRM THE TYPE OF REAR CAMERA CIRCUITS
- TEST THE REAR CAMERA CIRCUITS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Radio harness connector.
- Disconnect the Rear Camera harness connector.
- Perform a voltage drop test of the Rear Camera circuits at the Rear Camera harness connector.
Is the voltage drop less than 0.2 volts?
Yes
- Go To the appropriate Service Information
No
- Replace the Rear Camera circuit(s) as needed.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CONNECT THE COAX CABLE ADAPTER TOOL BETWEEN THE RADIO AND THE REAR CAMERA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Radio harness connector going to the Rear Camera.
- Disconnect the Rear Camera harness connector.
- Connect the RG-174 Coax Cable 9977-6-8 Adapter (special tool #9977-6-8, Adapter, RG-174 Coax Cable) between the Rear Camera and the Radio connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Replace the Rear Camera Coax Cable.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- REPLACE THE REAR CAMERA
- Turn the ignition on.
- Replace the Rear Camera in accordance with the service information.
- With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test Complete.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, perform the Reset ECU function in the Radio under the Guided Diagnostics menu.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Radio in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
