Automatic High Beam Control
The optional auto high beam system includes the digital imager Forward Facing Camera Module (FFCM), the BCM, the radio, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), and the headlight switch. The Auto High Beams option must be enabled using the radio customer programmable features function. The AUTO position must be selected using the rotary knob of the headlight switch, the headlight beam selector switch must be in the high beam position and the appropriate lighting conditions must be present. The vehicle speed must be greater than 25 km/h (16 mph) and will turn off at 21 km/h (13 mph). Once the above conditions are met the FFCM begins to monitor the field of view for vehicles detected and will activate or deactivate the high beams accordingly.
When active, the FFCM module automatically sends an "automatic high beam on" message to the BCM. The BCM will know the switch status and responds appropriately. The BCM also sends a message to the IPC for "Enabled" and Disabled" display messages. These messages should not display unless under optimal lighting conditions.
