Automatic High Beam Control
This system utilizes the Forward Facing Camera (FFC) module and will operates solely at night, recognizing lit areas and other vehicles with headlights on in order to activate and deactivate the high beam headlights automatically.
Automatic High Beam Control (AHBC) is useful for ensuring maximum visibility when driving in the dark and preventing the possibility of blinding other drivers as it operates only when the high beam headlights are activated from the steering column stalk. This system can be activated and deactivated from a menu located in the radio.
This system operates only at speeds above 25-30 km/h (15-18 mph) and advises the driver regarding its operation by keeping a specific warning light on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) illuminated during the whole period that the automatic function is operating.
Automatic Operating Conditions
- The vehicle speed exceeds 40 km/h (25 mph) and does not drop below 25 km/h (15 mph)
- The road is not already illuminated by street lamps
- No vehicle traffic is oncoming
- No vehicle is in the front of the host vehicle
- The host vehicle is not maneuvering a tight corner
Once all of these prerequisites have been met, the FFC module automatically sends an "automatic high beam on" message to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM will know the switch status and responds appropriately. The BCM also sends a message to the IPC for "Enabled" and Disabled" display messages. These messages should not display unless under optimal lighting conditions.
