Component Functional Description - Hood Latch/Ajar Switch 2

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Component Functional Operation:  The Hood Ajar Switch 2 is a hard-wired input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The switch receives a 5.0 volt signal from the PCM through an internal pull up resistor. When the switch is open the signal passes through the internal resistor and the resistance through the switch should be approximately 1000 Ohms. When the ajar switch is closed the signal passes through the switch directly to the return circuit and the resistance through the switch should read approximately 0.0 Ohms. The resistor inside the Hood Ajar Switch allows the PCM the ability to detect the hood ajar status and diagnose the signal for an open condition. The PCM is not able to detect a short low in the signal since this would be the same input as hood open/ajar. This failure mode would be detected by the rationality fault that compares the signal to the Hood Ajar Switch 1 signal received over the Can Bus from the Body Control Module (BCM).
