Engine Block: Crankshaft: Removal

CAUTION:

If the engine encounters a catastrophic failure, the engine oil cooler and lines must be replaced or damage to the new engine or components could result.

Remove the engine. Refer to REMOVAL .
Secure the engine onto a suitable engine stand.

NOTE:
When installing the puller tool, ensure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper.
Remove the crankshaft damper retaining bolt.
Install the puller tool (2) making sure the bolts are fully threaded through the entire crankshaft damper.
Remove the crankshaft damper (1).

Remove the flexplate (1). Refer to FLEXPLATE, REMOVAL .

NOTE:
When the oil pan is removed, a new oil pan gasket and the integral windage tray assembly must be installed, the old gasket cannot be reused.
Remove the oil pan and the oil pump pickup tube (2). Refer to REMOVAL
Remove and discard the oil pan gasket/windage tray (3).

Remove the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer. Refer to RETAINER, CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL, REMOVAL .

Remove the engine timing cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL .

Remove the oil pump retaining bolts (2) and remove the oil pump (1).

Remove the timing chain (5), camshaft phaser (1) and crankshaft sprocket (3). Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL .
CAUTION:
Do not use a number stamp or a punch to mark connecting rods or caps, as damage to connecting rods could occur.

NOTE:
Connecting rods and bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be marked before removal to ensure correct reassembly.
Mark the connecting rod and bearing cap location using a permanent ink marker or scribe tool.
Remove the rod bearing caps and bearings.
CAUTION:
Do not use a number stamp or a punch to mark main bearing caps as damage to bearing caps or bearings could occur.

Main bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be marked before removal to ensure correct reassembly.
Mark the main bearing caps (1) using a permanent ink marker or scribe tool.

Remove the main bearing cap bolts.
Remove the main bearing cap crossbolts.
Remove main bearing caps (1) and bearings one at a time.
