Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT DTC diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any Engine Hood Switch DTCs active or pending in the PCM OR BCM?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX or refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- VERIFY THAT THE HOOD IS SECURED PROPERLY
- Visually inspect that the Hood is secured properly. Also inspect the Hood Ajar Switch and Latch assembly for proper installation.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Visually inspect that the Hood is secured properly. Also inspect the Hood Ajar Switch and Latch assembly for proper installation.
- CHECK THE ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 VOLTAGE VALUE
- CHECK THE (K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Engine Hood Switch harness connector.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit at the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE (K806) ENGINE HOOD SWITCH 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (K915) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between ground and the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit and the (K915) Sensor Ground circuit at the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit and the (K915) Sensor Ground circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit and the (K915) Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- Check for continuity between ground and the (K806) Engine Hood Switch 2 Signal circuit and the (K915) Sensor Ground circuit at the Engine Hood Switch 2 harness connector.
- REPLACE ENGINE AJAR HOOD SWITCH 2 AND RETEST FOR DTC
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace Engine Hood Ajar Switch 2 in accordance with the Service Information.
- Connect the Engine Hood Ajar Switch 2 and PCM harness connectors.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame and the When Monitored conditions, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Replacing the Engine Hood Switch 2 repaired the fault.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
- Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (G70) HOOD AJAR SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) harness connector.
- Disconnect the BCM A harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit at the Hood Ajar Switch harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK THE (G70) HOOD AJAR SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (G931) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between ground and the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit and the (G931) Sensor Ground circuit at the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit and the (G931) Sensor Ground circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit and the (G931) Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 11
- Check for continuity between ground and the (G70) Hood Ajar Switch Sense circuit and the (G931) Sensor Ground circuit at the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) harness connector.
- REPLACE THE HOOD AJAR SWITCH (LATCH) AND RETEST FOR DTC
- Replace the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Connect the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) and BCM harness connectors.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame and the When Monitored conditions, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 12
No
- Replacing the Hood Ajar Switch (Latch) repaired the fault.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED BCM HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all BCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.

- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the BCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, BODY CONTROL (BCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
