Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR PCM SOFTWARE UPDATES 
    1. Check for any applicable Service Bulletins or Flash updates related to the DTC.

      Are there any applicable Service Bulletins or Flash updates?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
    3. Refer to the recorded DTCs.

      Are there any Power Control Relay, PCR Control Relay or charging system DTCs present?

      Yes 

      • Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DTC INDEX .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK FUSE 5 (150A) IN THE REMOTE BATTERY JUMP POST 
    1. Check Fuse 5 in the Remote Battery Jump Post for continuity.

      Is the Fuse open?

      Yes 

      • Replace the open fuse and check the related wiring harnesses for any conditions that could cause the open fuse.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (T760) PCR CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE AT THE POWER CONTROL RELAY 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Power Control Relay C1 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (T760) PCR Control Relay Output circuit at the Power Control Relay C1 harness connector.
      NOTE:

      There should be no voltage present since the Power Control Relay is only energized during an auto start event.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Go To  6
  5. CHECK THE PCR CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT AT THE PDC CONNECTOR 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Power Distribution Center (PDC) harness connector.
    3. Check for continuity between the (T760) PCR Control Relay Output circuit and all other circuits at the PDC harness connector.

      Is there continuity between the (T760) PCR Control Relay Output circuit and any other circuit?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (T760) PCR Control Relay Output circuit for a short to the circuit that showed continuity.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the Power Distribution Center in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. CHECK THE POWER CONTROL RELAY FOR PROPER OPERATION 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the eyelet from the Power Control Relay C2 terminal. Leave the C3 eyelet connected to the Power Control Relay.
      NOTE:

      This eyelet is still connected to Main Cranking Battery. Be careful to insulate and/or isolate the cable so that it cannot make contact with any engine ground.

    3. Measure the voltage at the C2 terminal of the Power Control Relay with the C2 eyelet removed and the C3 eyelet still connected.
      NOTE:

      The Power Control Relay is normally closed when not energized and should have voltage passing through the relay from the C3 terminal to the C2 terminal.

      Is voltage present at the C2 terminal?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7
        NOTE:

        Reconnect the eyelet to the Power Control Relay before continuing.

      No 

      • Replace the Power Control Relay in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK BATTERY POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE CABLE CONNECTIONS 
    1. Perform a voltage drop test between the Battery Cable ends and the Battery posts on the Vehicle Battery.

      Is the voltage drop less than 0.2 volts for both cables?

      Yes 

      • Go To  8

      No 

  8. CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY STATE OF CHARGE 
    1. Disconnect the Negative Cable from the Vehicle Battery.
    2. Use the (special tool #GR8-1220KIT-CHRY, AGM Battery Tester/Charger Station) or equivalent to load test the Vehicle Battery.

      Did the Vehicle Battery pass the load test?

      Yes 

      • Go To  9

      No 

  9. CHECK VEHICLE BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE GROUND 
    1. Check the Vehicle Battery Negative Cable for a proper ground.

      Is the Negative Battery Cable grounded properly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  10

      No 

  10. CHECK VEHICLE BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE 
    1. Perform a voltage drop test on the Vehicle Battery Positive Cable between the cable end at the Vehicle Battery post and the Remote Positive Jump Post connection.

      Is the voltage drop less than 0.25 volts?

      Yes 

      • Go To  11

      No 

      • Repair the Vehicle Battery Positive Cable for high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  11. CHECK (A209) FUSED B+ SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO THE PCM 
    1. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic) to the PCM harness connector. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector in-line with the GPEC Adaptor connected in-line.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the Voltage on the (A209) Fused B+ circuit at the GPEC Adaptor.
    5. Measure the Voltage of the Vehicle Battery.

      Is the Voltage on the (A209) Fused B+ circuit within 0.2 volts of the Vehicle Battery?

      Yes 

      • Go To  12

      No 

  12. CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS 
    1. Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
    2. Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
    3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    6. Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    10. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
    11. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No 

      • The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
