Diagnostic Test

CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
NOTE:
Verify that the engine oil is at the proper level and confirm that an OEM specified oil filter is being used. Also, review the customers oil change history to make sure that the oil is being changed at the correct intervals and that the proper oil viscosity is being used.
1. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
  WARNING:
  When the engine is operating, do not stand in direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
  Is the DTC active or pending?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 2
  No
  - Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
CHECK FOR RELATED DTCS
1. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
  In addition to the P06DD fault code, are any of the following related fault codes pending, active, or stored: P0520, P0521, P0522, P0523, or P06DA?
  
  Yes
  - Perform diagnostic procedure for any of the above fault codes that are present.
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Go To 3
CHECK THE ENGINE OIL/ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. The following items should be checked before continuing with this procedure. Failure to do so may lead to misdiagnosis.
  - LOW ENGINE OIL LEVEL
  - AERATED ENGINE OIL
  - INCORRECT ENGINE OIL FILTER (DOES NOT MEET OEM SPECIFICATIONS)
  - DETERIORATED OR DIRTY OIL
  - CONTAMINATED ENGINE OIL
  - INCORRECT ENGINE OIL VISCOSITY
  Were any of the above conditions present?
  
  Yes
  - Repair the engine oiling or mechanical condition (i.e. improper oil drain back, oil sludge, damaged oil pump, pick-up tube or seal, etc.).
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Go To 4
CHECK THE DUAL STAGE OIL PUMP FOR PROPER OPERATION
NOTE:
The 3.6L Dual Stage Oil Pump is released as an assembly. The assembly includes both the pump and the solenoid. There are no serviceable sub-assembly components. In the event the oil pump or solenoid are not functioning or out of specification they must be replaced as an assembly.
1. Replace the Oil Pressure Sensor accordance with the Service Information.
2. Turn the ignition on.
3. With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
4. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
5. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
  Did the DTC return?
  
  Yes
  - Replace the Dual Stage Oil Pump Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to PUMP, ENGINE OIL, REMOVAL .
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Repair complete.
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
