Section 20 (BW44-40 Transfer Case (Service Information)): Installation

- Using a transmission jack, and raise the transfer case up to the rear transmission flange.
- Align the transfer case dowel pins with the holes in the rear transmission flange.NOTE:
The front (transmission) side of the transfer case flange is shown in the illustration for clarity.
- Install the transfer case to transmission bolts (1, 2) and tighten the transfer case to transmission bolts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise the transfer case and transmission up into position, and support with a suitable service jack. Remove the transmission jack.
- Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to INSTALLATION

- Install the crossmember (3) and install the bolts attaching the crossmember (1) to frame.
- Lower transmission with service jack onto crossmember and supports.
- Install the bolts (2) securing rear support and cushion to transmission crossmember (3).
- Connect the temperature sensor wire harness connector (1) and the clutch coil wire harness connector (2).
- Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the exhaust. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
- If the fluid was drained, fill the transfer case with proper amount and type of fluid. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
