Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors or vehicle connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the test lead 10159-6 or the use of Breakout Box 8443-55 to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- VERIFY THAT DTC B00C5-2B-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER IS ACTIVE
Does the scan tool display active: B00C5-2B-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER ?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- INSPECT PASSENGER SEAT HARNESS WIRES AND CONNECTORS WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the Driver Seat Harness wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
Are any of these conditions present?
Yes
NOTE:Do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness if any of these conditions exist
- Replace the Passenger Seat Harness in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the Driver Seat Harness wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.
- VERIFY THAT PASSENGER SEAT HARNESS IS ROUTED CORRECTLY
- Verify that the Passenger Seat Harness is routed correctly.
Is the Passenger Seat Harness routed correctly?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Reroute the Passenger Seat Harness as necessary.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Verify that the Passenger Seat Harness is routed correctly.
- CHECK FOR DTC B00C5-2B-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER WITH PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR DISCONNECTED WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor connector.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Wait two minutes, and then with the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B00C5-2B-PASSENGER SEAT TRACK POSITION SENSOR - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor in accordance with the service information. Refer to SENSOR, SEAT TRACK POSITION, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK (R262) SEAT POSITION SENSOR DATA-PASSENGER CIRCUIT AND (R264) SEAT POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE-PASSENGER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect the ORC connector.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Measure the voltage of the (R262) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Data circuit between the Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor connector and ground.
- Measure the voltage of the (R264) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit between the Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor connector and ground.
Is the voltage above 0.2 volts on either circuit?
Yes
NOTE:Do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness if any of these conditions exist
WARNING:Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Passenger Seat Harness in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK (R261) PASSENGER SEAT POSITION SENSOR DATA CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO (R263) PASSENGER SEAT POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE CIRCUIT Fig 2: Checking Passenger Seat Position Sensor Data Circuit For A Short To The Passenger Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit

- Measure the resistance between the (R262) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Data circuit and the (R264) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit in thePassenger Seat Track Position Sensor connector.
Is the resistance below 10K Ohms?
Yes
NOTE:Do not attempt to repair the Seat Harness. Replace the Seat Harness if any of these conditions exist
- Replace the Passenger Seat Harness in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the ORC in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance between the (R262) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Data circuit and the (R264) Passenger Seat Position Sensor Voltage circuit in thePassenger Seat Track Position Sensor connector.
