Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST .
- Probing of the circuit cavities at the ORC Module body harness connectors or vehicle connectors is only to be done with a approved test lead from the test lead 10159-6 or the use of Breakout Box 8443-55 to prevent vehicle wiring harness connector damage during diagnostic procedures.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED SQUIB CIRCUITS IN RIGHT SIDE THORAX AIRBAG WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Right Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.WARNING:
To avoid serious or fatal injury, do not place an intact uncoupled Right Side Thorax Squib Airbag face down on a hard surface, the airbag will propel into the air if accidentally deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
NOTE:Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Right Side Thorax Airbag harness connector.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the standard key ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- If the vehicle is equipped with the keyless ignition, follow this ignition on warning.WARNING:
Disconnect the 12-volt battery wait two minutes before proceeding, remove the ORC fuses, connect the 12-volt battery, wait two minutes before proceeding. Cycle the ignition to the On position, then reconnect the ORC fuses. Wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display: B0028-2B-1ST ROW RIGHT SEAT MOUNTED SIDE SQUIB 1 - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the Right Side Thorax Airbag in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to AIR BAG, SIDE CURTAIN, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Right Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.
- CHECK FOR RIGHT SIDE THORAX AIRBAG SQUIB CIRCUITS SHORTED TOGETHER IN THE SEAT BACK WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the appropriate connector (under Right Seat).NOTE:
Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the appropriate SRS Load Tool Jumper to the appropriate underseat connector (Body Side).WARNING:
Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTC.
Does the scan tool display: B0028-2B-1ST ROW RIGHT SEAT MOUNTED SIDE SQUIB 1 - WIRES SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Right Side Thorax Airbag wiring harness (Side Airbag Jumper).
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the appropriate connector (under Right Seat).
- CHECK (R6) RIGHT SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 LINE 2 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO (R8) RIGHT SEAT THORAX SQUIB 1 LINE 1 CIRCUIT WARNING:
Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and the appropriate SRS Load Tool Jumper from the Right Side Seat Thorax Airbag harness connector.
- Disconnect the ORC harness connectors.NOTE:
Check the connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the test leads to the DVOM.
- Measure the resistance between the (R6) Right Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 2 circuit terminal C1-B 90 and the (R8) Right Seat Thorax Squib 1 Line 1 circuit terminal C1-B 89 at the ORC module body harness connector.
Is the resistance below 10K Ohms?
Yes
- In accordance with the Service Information repair or replace the Right Side Thorax Airbag wiring harness.
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information. Refer to MODULE, OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER, REMOVAL .
- Perform the RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RESTRAINTS SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST .
