Diagnosis And Testing - Hood Ajar Switch

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Dodge Durango. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the hood ajar switch.
  3. Check for continuity between the two terminals of the hood ajar switch. There should be continuity with the hood latch open, and only the continuity of the 1 kilohm diagnostic resistor with the hood latch closed. If OK, use a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic procedure to complete testing of the Body Control Module (BCM) as well as the circuits between the BCM and the hood ajar switch. If not OK, replace the ineffective hood ajar switch.
