Section 140 (Front Half Shaft): Removal: Removal

- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.NOTE:
Always install a NEW hub nut. The original hub nut is one-time use only and should be discarded when removed.
- Remove half shaft (1) hub/bearing nut (2) and DISCARD the nut.
- Remove wheel speed sensor.
- Remove both brake calipers and hang to the side. Refer to CALIPER, DISC BRAKE, REMOVAL .
- Remove tie rod end nut (1).
- Remove stabilizer bar link bolts (7, 5) from lower control arms.
- Separate the outer tie rod ends (3) from the knuckles (2) with Ball Joint Remover (special tool #8677, Remover, Ball Joint) (1).
- Remove the upper ball joint nuts.
- Separate the upper ball joints (2) from the knuckles (3) using Ball Joint Press (special tool #C-4150A, Press, Ball Joint) (1).
- Remove shock clevis bolt and nut from lower control arm
- Lean the knuckle (2) out and push half shaft (1) out of the hub/bearing. Discard the coated washer between the outer C/V joint and the hub.
- Pry half shafts from axle/axle tube with pry bar. There are notches present on the inner C/V joint housing to pry against, use care not to damage axle shaft seals.
