Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read RF Hub DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, select: "RFH" and "System Tests".
- Perform the Door Handle Verification Test. This will activate the Module to retest for DTCs.
- With the scan tool, read RF Hub DTCs and wait one (1) minute.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "FRONT RIGHT Door Handle Power".
- Double click on the Value field to start the graph.
- Observe the graph for a pulsating line.
Is the graph pulsating high and low on the screen?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK THE FRONT RIGHT EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE (PASSIVE ENTRY)
- Remove the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle and disconnect the switch harness connector.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "FRONT RIGHT Door Handle Power".
- Double click on the Value field to start the graph.
- Observe the graph for a pulsating line.
Is the graph pulsating between high and low on the screen?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Replace the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to HANDLE, EXTERIOR, NSTALLATION .
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit short to ground.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (P401) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit and the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit and the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit for a short to the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module in accordance with the Service Information. If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module (BUX), it must also be replaced in accordance with the Service Information. When replacing the RF-Hub and the Steering Column Lock Module, the RF-Hub MUST be programmed BEFORE the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV) is programmed. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
- Replace the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV/ESCL) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RADIO FREQUENCY HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check for continuity between the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit and the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 harness connector.
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE ENTRY HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT
- Continue with the scan tool still on "FRONT RIGHT Door Handle Power".
- Observe the Value field.
What does the value field display?
OFF
- Replace the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module in accordance with the Service Information. If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module (BUX), it must also be replaced in accordance with the Service Information. When replacing the RF-Hub and the Steering Column Lock Module, the RF-Hub MUST be programmed BEFORE the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV) is programmed. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
- Replace the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV/ESCL) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RADIO FREQUENCY HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
ON
- The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE ENTRY HANDLE SWITCH SENSE OR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- CHECK THE FRONT RIGHT HANDLE FUNCTIONS
- Stop the graph.
- Lower the FRONT RIGHT door window.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Have the FOBIK outside and within 10 cm. to 1.5 m. (4 in. to 5 ft.) of the FRONT RIGHT door handle.NOTE:
In the next steps, wait two (2) seconds between each Lock and Unlock activation as there is a two second delay after each Lock action.
- With the scan tool, select "RFH", "Data" and scroll to "Passive Entry Function Carried Out".
- Press the Lock button and observe "Passive lock at FRONT RIGHT door".
- Grab the door handle and observe "Passive entry at FRONT RIGHT door".
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 two more times.
Is the Module receiving the inputs on the screen as you do them?
Yes
- The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK THE FRONT RIGHT DOOR HANDLE CIRCUITS
- Remove the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle Switch harness connector.
- Measure the voltage between the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return and the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Sense circuits in the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle Switch connector.
Is the voltage above 11.8 volts?
Yes
- Replace the FRONT RIGHT External Door Handle in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to HANDLE, EXTERIOR, NSTALLATION .
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 11
- CHECK THE (P401) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR CONTINUITY
- CHECK THE (P401) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C2 Harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit between the RF Hub Module C2 harness connector and the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle Switch harness connector.
Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 13
No
- Repair the (P401) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Return circuit for an open.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (Z916) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module C1 Harness connector.
- Check the connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension. Repair as necessary. If repairs were made, return to Step.Refer to 1.
- Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, check the (Z916) Ground circuit at the Radio Frequency Hub Module C1 connector.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module in accordance with the Service Information. If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module (BUX), it must also be replaced in accordance with the Service Information. When replacing the RF-Hub and the Steering Column Lock Module, the RF-Hub MUST be programmed BEFORE the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV) is programmed. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
- Replace the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV/ESCL) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RADIO FREQUENCY HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair the RF-Hub Ground circuit for an open.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A OPEN
- Disconnect the RF Hub Module C2 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense wire between the RF Hub C2 harness connector and the FRONT RIGHT Exterior Door Handle Switch harness connector.
Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 15
No
- Repair the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Sense circuit for an open.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (P400) FRONT RIGHT PASSIVE HANDLE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit in the C2 connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Sense circuit for a short to voltage.
- With the scan tool, select "Diagnostic Procedures", "Reset ECU" and "RFH" and perform the routine.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Radio Frequency Hub (RF Hub) Module in accordance with the Service Information. If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module (BUX), it must also be replaced in accordance with the Service Information. When replacing the RF-Hub and the Steering Column Lock Module, the RF-Hub MUST be programmed BEFORE the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV) is programmed. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
- Replace the Steering Column Lock Module (ELV/ESCL) in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the RADIO FREQUENCY HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (P400) FRONT RIGHT Passive Handle Switch Sense circuit in the C2 connector.
