Skip Shift Indicator
This indicator is located in the Tachometer. The Skip Shift indicator is comprised of an Amber LED and a Red LED that share a common chimney in the cluster. The LED's are non- serviceable. The cluster controls the Skip Shift indicator via 2 inputs: A PCI Bus message from the PCM and the Tachometer gauge pointer position. Upon receipt of the appropriate PCI message, the cluster will illuminate the Amber LED when commanded ON, or will turn the indicator OFF. When the Amber LED (Skip Shift) is illuminated it is necessary to shift from first to fourth gear.
When the tachometer pointer indicates 5600 RPM, the cluster will illuminate the Red LED (Redline). The Red LED will turn OFF when the tachometer pointer indicates 5500 RPM. The Red LED will have priority over the Amber LED. If the Red LED is turned OFF and the Amber LED is still requested ON, the Amber LED will be illuminated.
The PCM locks out second and third gear and the cluster will illuminate the Skip Shift Amber LED when the following conditions are met:
- Engine coolant temperature exceeds 41°C (106°F)
- Vehicle speed is between 12 - 20 MPH (19-32 kph)
- Engine operating above 1322 RPM
- The PCM verified first gear speed/RPM
- Throttle position sensor (TPS) signal is less than 0.68 volt above closed throttle (23 percent throttle opening)
The skip shift solenoid resets when vehicle speed drops below 3 MPH (4 kph).
