Torsion Bars: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle with suspension hanging. Unload torsion bar completely by turning adjusting bolt counterclockwise. Count number of turns to aid installation. See Fig 1.

  2. Remove adjustment bolt from swivel. Remove torsion bar and anchor as an assembly. Separate torsion bar from anchor.
  3. Remove all foreign material from torsion bar mounting in anchor and control arm. Inspect torsion bars, anchors, swivels, bushings and crossmember support for bends, cracks, deterioration and damage. Check adjustment bolt and nut for damage and stripped threads. Replace components as necessary.
