Lower Control Arm & Ball Joint: Installation

  1. Install NEW ball joint into lower control arm. Install NEW ball joint grease seal. Position lower control arm on vehicle, and install nuts on pivot bolts finger tight. Ensure ball joint stud tapers are clean and dry. Clean with mineral spirits as necessary. Insert ball joint into steering knuckle and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install new cotter pin.
  2. Install torsion bar. Install lower shock absorber mounting bolt. Install CV axle shaft. Install stabilizer bar link. Install outer tie rod end to steering knuckle. Tighten front and then rear lower control arm pivot bolts to specification. Install wheel and tire assembly. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove support and lower vehicle.
  3. Adjust vehicle ride height. See RIDING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT in appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
