Knuckle Assembly: Installation

  1. Install hub and bearing onto steering knuckle, and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure opening for wheel speed sensor is toward front of vehicle when installing (if equipped with ABS). Ensure ball joint stud tapers are clean and dry. Clean with mineral spirits as necessary. Install steering knuckle onto ball joint studs.
  2. Install ball joint nuts, and tighten to specification. Install NEW cotter pins. Grease lower ball joint. Remove hydraulic jack from lower control arm. Install tie rod end, and tighten to specification. Install NEW cotter pin. Install CV axle shaft. See CV AXLE SHAFT . Install ABS speed sensor (if equipped), brake shield, brake rotor and caliper. Tighten caliper guide pins to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Tighten hub retainer nut to specification with brakes applied. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Install spring washer, nut lock and NEW cotter pin. DO NOT back off nut to install cotter pin.
  4. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
